High school mats everywhere were brimming with activity this past weekend. Consider this one attempt at condensing this past weekend‘s events.
-- Dual meet tournaments dominated the weekend. Penns Valley and Philipsburg-Osceola both went 1-4 at the Juniata Duals. State College went 5-2 at the Red Storm Duals in Virginia. Huntingdon won the Richland Duals to improve to 14-0. Juniata went 5-0 at its duals. Central Dauphin East won the Jersey Shore Duals.
-- Bald Eagle Area sophomore Jake Taylor suffered his first loss at the Escape the Rock Tournament, but he recovered to take third. Nate Sharkey (fifth, 215), Matt Dillon (8th, 130) and Coleman Hoffman (8th, 160) also placed for the Eagles, who finished 18th in the 31-team tournament. Brian Brill (152) and heavyweight Zach Corl captured titles to lead Central Mountain to a fourth-place showing. The Eagles and Wildcats meet Saturday night in Mill Hall. District 11 Bethlehem Catholic won the Escape the Rock Tournament.
-- Central Dauphin and Easton are establishing themselves as favorites in this month’s PIAA Class AAA team duals. Central Dauphin earned a nice 41-24 victory over La Salle College in its own duals. Easton edged Nazareth 27-24 before a packed crowd. A high school meet where neither team compiles 30 points is a beautiful thing.
