Penn State

Star, possible Penn State target wrestler changes mind

One of the nation’s best upperweights has re-opened his recruiting process.

Three-time state champion Andrew Campolattano told Greg Tufaro of the Home News Tribune that he has reneged on his oral football commitment to Rutgers. Here is a link to Tufaro’s story:

Expect Penn State to pursue the 215-pound Campolattano. Penn State coach Cael Sanderson followed Campolattano throughout last season, although the Nittany Lions signed California star Morgan McIntosh, who wrestles at 189, during the early signing period. McIntosh is projected to wrestle 197.

The Nittany Lions are thin on upperweights. The 197-pound weight class has struggled since Phil Davis graduated and the program has just two heavyweights: junior Cameron Wade and Bald Eagle Area graduate Jon Gingrich.

Campolattano owns a 150-1 record. Going 150-1 in New Jersey, which has a one-class state tournament, is amazing.
