State College's rise as a freestyle wrestling hotbed continued as Nittany Lion Wrestling Club athletes Teyon Ware and Jake Varner won their weight classes at the U.S. Open in Cleveland.
Ware captured the 66-kilogram title with an 0-1, 5-0, 1-1 victory over former Lock Haven and Penn State star Cary Kolat. Ware, who wrestled at Oklahoma, has spent the past two seasons training with the NLWC.
Varner defeated Dan Erekson 7-0, 5-0 to win the 96-kilogram title. Varner joined the NLWC after winning two NCAA titles at Iowa State.
NLWC heavyweight Aaron Anspach, a NCAA finalist at Penn State, finished fifth at 120 kilograms. Anspach and fellow NLWC heavyweight Les Sigman both lost in the semifinals.

Former Penn State wrestler Mark McKnight finished seventh at 55 kilograms. McKnight also trains with the NLWC.
Former Penn State and Philipsburg-Osceola wrestler James Yonushonis finished eighth at 84 kilograms. Yonushonis trains at the Ohio Regional Training Center in Columbus, Oho.
