Two Spikes selected to all-star team

State College Spikes catcher Samuel Gonzalez and outfielder Carlos Mesa have been selected to represent a team comprised of National League affiliates in next Tuesday’s New York-Penn League All-Star Game in Lowell, Mass.

Gonzalez leads the Spikes with a .319 batting average in 34 games. The average ranks eighth among NY-PL players with a minimum of 2.7 plate appearances per team game. Gonzalez, 22, also has one homer and 13 RBIs.

Mesa is currently on the disabled list and hasn‘t played since July 25 because of an unspecified injury. Mesa, a 23-year-old Cuban defector, is hitting .287 with two homers and nine RBIs in 24 games.
