Pirates add high pick to Spikes' roster

The Pittsburgh Pirates have added sixth-round draft Dan Gamache to the State College Spikes’ roster.

Gamache, a third baseman, signed shortly after the June draft but he didn’t begin his professional career until last week because of an injury. Gamache hit .350 with four RBIs in six games in the rookie Gulf Coast League.

Gamache played at Auburn, where he hit .299 with 13 doubles, two triples, five homers and 29 RBIs as a junior this past spring. Gamache had a massive sophomore season, hitting .337 with 16 homers and 77 RBIs against Southeastern Conference competition.
