Notes: This is Connecticut’s first visit to Medlar Field. The franchise played in Oneonta, N.Y., from 1966 to 2009. The Spikes went 1-2 at Connecticut last year. The Tigers’ rosters included a name familiar to Pittsburgh Pirates fans. Catcher Patrick Leyland is the son of former Pirates and current Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland. Patrick, who attended District 7 Bishop Canevin High School, is hitting .235 through 24 games. The Tigers selected Patrick in the eighth round of last year’s draft. First baseman Aaron Westlake (third round, Vanderbilt) and infielder Jason King (fourth, Kansas State) are high 2011 picks on Connecticut’s roster. The Spikes are hitting .252 over their past 10 games, with outfielder Wes Freeman leading the way at .419.
