The skinny: Central Mountain is searching for its fifth straight title, and the Wildcats own convincing wins over Philipsburg-Osceola 46-21 and Mifflin County 52-17. The Mifflin County match was Tuesday. … P-O qualified for the semifinals for the first time since 2003 by defeating Bellefonte 40-33 on Wednesday. The Mounties made seven straight semifinal appearances from 1995 to 2001. … P-O has won 11 straight matches since losing to Central Mountain on Dec. 21. Chris Thompson (26-4 at 106 pounds), Andrew Greenawalt (22-7, 138), Jared Smith (26-4, 145), Logan Walstrom (29-1, 152) and Jeff Thompson (23-9, 160) have more than 20 victories. … P-O coach Tim McCamley missed Wednesday’s match against Bellefonte and Thursday’s 49-23 win over Curwensville because of an emergency surgery to remove his appendix. His status for today is questionable. …. Westmont Hilltop’s Ryan Burnheimer and Josh Duphin, Central Mountain’s Brian Brill and Mifflin County’s Tyson Searer are returning PIAA placewinners. Brill, a returning PIAA champ, owns a 71-bout winning streak. He hasn’t lost since the 2010 PIAA consolation semifinals. …Westmont Hilltop defeated Bald Eagle Area 37-27 in this week’s other first-round match. The Hilltoppers, who are returning to Class AA next year, lost to Central Mountain 36-34 in last year’s final.
