Penn State snapped a 12-meet losing streak, beating Virginia for the first time since the 1996-97 season 191-162 Saturday. The Nittany Lions were edged 185-168 by No. 6 Texas.
The Nittany Lions began the second day of the two-day meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay in 1 minute, 27.75 seconds with Nate Savoy, James Wilson, Sean Grier and John Hauser.
Shane Ryan won the 50 freestyle in 20.38 while Hauser was third, Ryan also took the 100 backstroke in 47.87 while Savoy was second, and the 400 free relay team also won in 2:57.86 with Ryan, Matt Stasiunas, Shane Austin and Hauser.
Penn State also had a third-place finish in the relay with Grier, Andrew Sideras, Scott Heil and Matt Grillo.

Grier added a second in the 100 butterfly, while Hauser was second in the 200 freestyle, a spot ahead of Heil.
Over the two days of the meet, Penn State earned seven wins and 17 top-three finishes.
