Minnesota’s Sara Groenewegen threw no-hitter against Penn State in the opener as the No. 12 Golden Gophers swept a doubleheader Saturday 9-0 and 16-2 in a pair of five-inning games.
Groenewegen (12-1) struck out eight and did not walk a batter in the opener. Kasie Hatfield reached on an error for Penn State’s only baserunner.
Leadoff hitter Tyler Walker provided all of the offense Groenewegen would need by smacking two home runs, a two-run blast in the fourth and a three-run shot to end the game in the fifth.
The Golden Gophers (36-8, pounded 14 hits in the nightcap and scored 10 runs in the fourth inning. Kaitlyn Richardson and Taylor LeMay homered for the Gophers, who had eight extra-base hits in the romp.

Leadoff hitter Lexi Knief had two singles and scored on Karlie Habitz’s two-run double in the first inning for the Nittany Lions (14-31, 5-15).
