The Penn State softball team remained unbeaten on the season with a 9-1 victory over LIU Brooklyn and 3-2 triumph against Georgia Tech at the Florida Atlantic Kickoff Tournament on Saturday.
Freshman Alyssa VanDerveer’s three-run double led the Nittany Lions (3-0) in their five-inning romp against LIU Brroklyn. Reina Furuya, Erin Pond and Macy Jones each had two hits. Mollie Sorenson drove in a pair of runs.
Marissa Diecher allowed three hits, struck out three and walked two.
Kristina Brackpool belted a home run in the bottom of the sixth to beat Georgia Tech, which had tied the game with two-run homer from Courtney Ziese in the top of the inning. Brackpool also drove in a run in the first with a sacrifice fly. Furuya singled home Alicia Walker (two hits) in the third.

Jones earned the win with 1 1/3 innings of hitless relief of Christy Von Pusch, who allowed four hits, walked six and struck out four.
Penn State, which opened the season beating Arkansas 6-4 Friday night, faces Kansas and Florida Atlantic on Sunday to conclude the tournament.
