Penn State’s three-game winning streak to start the season came to a grinding halt as the Nittany Lions lost 8-0 against unbeaten Kansas and 7-1 against Florida Atlantic on Sunday in the Florida Atlantic Kickoff Tournament.
The Nittany Lions did not manage a hit against the Jayhawks’ Alicia Pille, who came within a walk of a perfect game in a contest that was halted after five innings. Pille struck out six, with Reina Furuya reaching on the walk.
Three Penn State pitchers didn’t have as much control as Pille. Marissa Diescher, Christy Von Pusch and Macy Jones surrendered 11 walks and eight hits. Chanin Naudin had three hits and drove in two for Kansas (8-0).
The Nittany Lions managed just two hits — singles by Alysaa VanDerveer and Alicia Walker — in the nightcap against Florida Atlantic (4-1).
