. The Penn State softball team split a pair of games in the Citrus Classic, defeating Western Illinois 6-2 and falling 2-1 to James Madison in eight innings on Sunday.
In the opener, Macy Jones relieved starter Jessica Cummings with the bases loaded and got out of the jam. She pitched 41/3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing four hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
Penn State used a four-run second inning to take the lead for good. Reina Furuya’s three-run double highlighted the frame.
Furuya had two of the Nittany Lions’ four hits. Kristina Brackpool belted a solo home run, her team-leading fourth.

Jones homered in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game with James Madison. The Dukes won on Erica Field’s RBI double in the eighth.
Erin Pond had two hits for the Nittany Lions. Marlaina Laubach (3-4) went the distance, allowing seven hits and a walk.
Penn State (8-9) plays at Pacific on Thursday.
