Penn State softball: Laubach’s arm leads Nittany Lions to win

Marlaina Laubach outdueled Loyola Marymount’s Rachael Farrington as the Penn State softball team grabbed a 1-0 triumph at the Capital Classic Tournament on Friday.

Laubach (5-5) tossed a four-hitter, with two walks and four strikeouts. Farrington allowed fives hits, walked three and struck out one.

The difference came in the fourth inning. Shelby Miller walked and moved to third on Kristina Brackpool’s single. Macy Jones followed with a groundout to plate Miller.

Lexie Knief had two hits for the Nittany Lions (10-12). Loyola Marymount dropped to 11-17.

Penn State faces host Sacramento State and Loyola Marymount in a doubleheader Saturday.
