Stephanie Sanders’ solo home run gave Michigan State the lead for good in the fourth inning en route to an 8-6 win over Penn State on Sunday.
With the teams tied 3-3, Sanders hit a homer off the scoreboard in left field against Penn State starting pitcher Jessica Cummings, who took the loss. The Spartans then added four runs in the bottom of the fifth against reliever Marlaina Laubach.
Penn State’s Shelby Miller went 3 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs.
The Nittany Lions (17-17) host a doubleheader against Bucknell on Wednesday, with the first game set to start at 5 p.m.
