Penn State softball: Nittany Lions’ rally falls short in loss to Indiana

Penn State collected 11 hits but its comeback fell short in a 5-4 loss to Indiana on Saturday at Beard Field.

The Hoosiers also pounded out 11 hits, led by CaraMia Tsirigos’ third-inning grand slam and Katelyn Conenna’s two doubles.

Five different Nittany Lions collected two hits — Lexi Knief, Mollie Sorenson, Shelby Miller, Alyssa VanDerveer and Erin Pond. One of Pond’s hits was a solo homer in the sixth, and Sorenson added an RBI double in the inning.

Marlaina Laubach pitched the complete-game loss, striking out three and walking one for Penn State (21-19, 4-7 Big Ten). Lara Olson picked up the win.

The teams complete their weekend series Sunday afternoon.
