With two golfers among the top 10, Penn State leads the field after the first day of the Mountaineer Intercollegiate on Monday.
The Nittany Lions posted a 6-over 294 to pace the 14-team field at the Pete Dye Golf Club, one stroke ahead of Connecticut. Miami (Ohio), Bowling Green and Cincinnati are all within five strokes.
Cole Miller is leading the Nittany Lions after his even-par round of 72 to sit in seventh place. Geoff Vartelas is a stroke back and tied for eighth, followed by Charles Huntzinger (tie-14, 74), JD Dornes (tie-23, 75) and Chris Houston (tie-28, 76).
Marshall’s Clark Robinson led everyone with his 3-under 69 in a tournament shortened to 36 holes after frost delayed Monday morning’s start.
