Kidder, Gerlach receive Big Ten track honors
Penn State’s Brannon Kidder and Tori Gerlach each earned Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week honors on Wednesday.
Kidder helped the Nittany Lions win the distance medley relay at the Penn State National, coming from behind as the anchor to beat Stanford’s Sean McGorty. He recorded a personal split time of 3 minutes, 55 seconds as part of the Nittany Lions’ time of 9:27.20 to edge the Cardinal (9:27.27).
In the 800-meter run, Kidder finished first with a time of 1:47.01.
It is Kidder’s second Big Ten weekly award this indoor track and field season.
Gerlach set a school record in the mile at the Penn State National with a time of 4:37.83. The previous record, set by Bridget Franek, stood for seven years.
Gerlach’s time is the best in the Big Ten this season.
Penn State is set to host the Sykes and Sabock Challenge Cup on Friday and Saturday. The meet starts at 2 p.m. Friday.
