Nittany Lions softball sweeps Rutgers

Penn State softball clinched a three-game sweep of Rutgers with a 12-1 win on Sunday.

The Nittany Lions (14-14, 3-0 Big Ten) tallied a season-high 15 hits en route to their first conference sweep since last April against the Scarlet Knights.

Penn State was led offensively by Mollie Sorenson, who had three hits, three RBIs and two runs scored. Shelby Miller also had three RBIs, while Lexi Knief and Kristina Brackpool had two RBIs apiece.

Penn State pitchers Jessica Cumming and Madison Seifert combined to surrender just seven hits and one run in the five-inning mercy rule win.

The Nittany Lions open their Big Ten home schedule on Friday against Michigan State.
