Penn State edges Ohio State in men’s lacrosse

Matt Florence’s goal with 1:41 left in the game lifted the No. 18 Penn State men’s lacrosse team to a 6-5 win over Ohio State in its Big Ten opener Sunday.

The Nittany Lions led 5-3 going into the fourth quarter, but Ohio State’s Jack Jasinski and JT Blubaugh each found the back of the net to tie the game. Florence scored the game-winning goal off an assist by Grant Ament.

Penn State goalie Will Schreiner made 15 saves.

Mike Sutton, Nick Aponte, Nick Spillane, Dan Craig and Brian Prestreau each scored for the Nittany Lions, who never trailed in the game.

Penn State (7-3, 1-0) hosts Maryland at 7 p.m. Sunday.
