Men’s golf finishes ninth at Big Ten Championships

Penn State dropped two spots after Sunday’s final round to finish ninth overall at the Big Ten Championships hosted by the Victoria National Golf Club.

The Nittany Lions shot a 296 in the last round, rounding out the tournament at 13-over par. Illinois ran away with the conference championship at 26-under par on the tournament.

Penn State was only one of four teams to have all five golfers finish in the top-50.

The Nittany Lions were led by JD Dornes, who finished in a tie for 20th. He was in second place individually after the first two rounds, but a six-over par 78 on Sunday slid him down the leaderboard.

Also for Penn State, Charles Huntzinger finished tied for 28th at five-over, Cole Miller was six-over for the tournament, Geoff Vartelas was one-over in the final round and 11-over overall to be tied for 43rd, and Chris Houston wrapped up at 12-over on the weekend.
