Aponte, three Nittany Lions earn Big Ten honors

Nick Aponte was a unanimous First-Team All-Big Ten selection, while three other Nittany Lions also earned postseason honors, the conference announced Tuesday.

Penn State freshman Grant Ament and sophomore Mike Aronow made the All-Big Ten Honorable Mention list, and senior James Chakey was Penn State’s Sportsmanship Award recipient.

Aponte, a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award, which goes to the nation’s best player, was the first player in program history to make the conference’s first team. Aponte had 26 goals and 19 assists during the regular season.

Ament led Penn State in the regular season with 53 points, while Aronow has been a key member of the Nittany Lions’ defense.

Penn State faces Maryland in the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday.
