Five Penn State pitchers combined for the first shutout of the season as the Nittany Lions blanked winless New York Institute of Technology 8-0 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
Nick Hedge and Dakota Forsyth tossed three innings each for Penn State (7-12). Tim Dunn, Ryan Harper and each tossed an inning as the Nittany Lions blanked the Bears (0-13) on six hits. The five combined for five strikeouts, walked just one batter and overcame three Penn State errors.
For the second consecutive game, the Nittany Lions terrorized NYIT on the bases. Taylor Skrepon, Jim Haley and Colin Keefe each had two steals as the Nittany Lions pilfered eight. They finished the two-game series with 15 steals.
Keefe had the first multi-hit game of his career with two singles and drove in a pair of runs. Steve Snyder also had two hits as Penn State took advantage of four NYIT errors to score five unearned runs. Leading 4-0, Penn State scored three runs in the fifth to blow the game open. Keefe had an RBI single and Alex Malinsky had a sacrifice fly in the outburst.
