Lamar Stevens turned in an efficient performance to lead Penn State to a 74-70 win over Maryland on Wednesday night at the Bryce Jordan Center.
Stevens scored a game-high 25 points on 10-for-12 shooting for the Nittany Lions, who have won four of their last five games. Tony Carr added 16 points and six assists for Penn State, while Josh Reaves finished with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Mike Watkins chipped in with 11 points for the Nittany Lions.
The Nittany Lions (17-9, 7-6 Big Ten) held the lead for the entire second half in the win over Maryland (16-10, 5-8) They built a 10-point lead with 8:11 left in the second half and closed out the win on a free throw by Reaves with 22 seconds left.
“It wasn’t our best game,” coach Patrick Chambers told BTN. “But we found a way.”

Penn State forward Lamar Stevens: Stevens started hot and stayed hot Wednesday night. He went 5-for-6 from the field and scored 11 points in the first half before going 5-for-6 in the second half for 14 points. It was his fifth game with at least 25 points this season.
Since Reaves returned after missing four games due to an academic concern, the Nittany Lions have gone 4-1 to get over the .500 mark in the Big Ten.
Reaves has scored in double figures in each of the team’s four wins during that stretch, starting with its upset win over then-No. 13 Ohio State. Reaves is averaging 10.9 points per game after his 14-point effort against Maryland on Wednesday.
Penn State is now sixth in the conference standings, just ahead of Northwestern (15-10, 6-6).
Penn State at Illinois, 7 p.m. Sunday: Illinois (12-12, 2-9) is set to take on Wisconsin on Thursday night before hosting the Nittany Lions on Sunday.
