Penn State’s Maggie Lucas has been named a semifinalist for the Naismith Trophy, given to the National Player of the Year.
Lucas, a senior and the lone Big Ten player on the list, is averaging 21.6 points per game, good for second in the Big Ten and 15th nationally and leads the NCAA in free-throw percentage, shooting 96.4 percent from the free throw line.
Lucas is Penn State’s second-leading scorer all-time and fourth in Big Ten history with 2,422 points.
She’s up against Connecticut’s Stephanie Dolson, Bria Hartley and Breanna Stewart, Maryland’s Alyssa Thomas, Baylor’s Adessey Sims, Louisville’s Shoni Schimmel, Stanford’s Chiney Ogwumike, and Notre Dame’s Kayla McBride and Jewell Loyd.
