Tori Waldner, Sierra Moore and Lindsey Spann were chosen as the captains of the Penn State women’s basketball team, coach Coquese Washington announced Wednesday.
“Tori, Sierra and Lindsey have worked together to provide strong leadership for this time,” Washington said. “They are hard workers, compassionate teammates and good communicators. They will provide the type of example and direction necessary for this team to perform at its best. They have learned from past team leaders and are ready for their turn at the helm this year.”
Waldner, the only senior on the roster, is the lone returning starter. She averaged 4.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game last season.
Moore, a redshirt sophomore, will be making her Penn State debut this season. She sat out last year after transferring from Duke. Moore averaged 2.5 points during her freshman season for the Blue Devils, and she was a standout at Delone Catholic.
Spann is a redshirt freshman who missed last year with a torn ACL. She averaged 15.9 points and 5.3 assists per game as a senior at Good Counsel.
Penn State faces Indiana (Pa.) in an exhibition game at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Bryce Jordan Center.
