Penn State men’s basketball: Newbill among finalists for Senior CLASS Award

Penn State’s D.J. Newbill is among 10 men’s basketball finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, the organization announced Thursday.

The award recognizes senior men’s and women’s basketball players who have excelled in the categories of: community, classroom, character and competition.

The men’s and women’s finalists were selected by national media from a list of 30 candidates. Fan voting takes place through March 23 on the award’s website. The fan votes along with the media’s and coaches’ votes determine the winners, who will be announced at this year’s men’s and women’s Final Fours.

Newbill leads the Big Ten in scoring with 20.7 points per game. Wisconsin’s Frank Kaminsky is also among the finalists.

The Nittany Lions (15-10, 3-9) host No. 19 Maryland at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
