Saquon Barkley was taken out of the game against Rutgers in the third quarter after a hit to the head and did not return to play.
The Penn State running back ran the ball nine yards to the Rutgers’ 5-yard-line and was hit by Rutgers linebacker Brandon Russell on the play. He was slow to get up, but walked off the field on his own.
Despite the scare, Penn State head coach James Franklin said that Barkley is “fine” in his postgame press conference. The coach also said his star running back could have reentered the game.
Barkley finished the game with 16 carries, 92 rushing yards and a touchdown. He also caught two passes for 25 yards. He outgained Rutgers as a team 117 yards to 87 yards.
