Sources: Penn State to hire former Indiana head coach Tom Allen as defensive coordinator

Penn State is set to hire another former head coach to be its defensive coordinator.

Former Indiana head coach Tom Allen will be the next defensive coordinator, multiple sources with knowledge of the situation told the Centre Daily Times.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel first reported the news.

Allen was previously the head coach at Indiana where he went 33-49 in just over seven seasons. He was previously the program’s defensive coordinator for a year before he took over and has been the DC at South Florida at the FBS level. Allen was fired by Indiana after the end of the 2023 season.

He would replace Manny Diaz, who left Penn State earlier this month to be the head coach at Duke.
