Here’s where Penn State sits in the AP top 25 after dominating Villanova

Penn State heads into its bye week at No. 2 in the Associated Press Top-25 poll after dominating Villanova in its final non-conference game of the season.

The Nittany Lions have been in that spot since the start of the season, with Ohio State staying firm at No. 1. The Nittany Lions’ next opponent, the Oregon Ducks, fell two spots to No. 6 in the latest poll, which was released Sunday afternoon. The Ducks beat Northwestern 34-14 on Saturday, but were nudged out of the top five after Miami and Georgia moved up in the rankings following wins over South Florida and Tennessee, respectively.

Other ranked Big Ten teams are Illinois at No. 9, Indiana at No. 19, Michigan at No. 21 and USC at No. 25. Nebraska also received votes but is currently unranked.

Penn State had 1,490 voting points, which was 20 more than No. 3 LSU and 141 fewer than Ohio State.

The 3-0 Nittany Lions now set their sights on the Ducks, who will travel to Beaver Stadium for the highly-anticipated Sept. 27 matchup. Penn State looks to avenge last year’s Big Ten Championship game loss to Oregon, and it will have one of the most hostile environments in college football on its side — the White Out.
