Penn State football: Recruiting roundup

Christian Hackenberg, QB, Fork Union, Va. (6-4, 210) — Completed 18 of 28 passes for 283 yards with a touchdown run against Liberty Christian. Hackenberg was intercepted twice, but was able to rally the offense and steer it into position for a potential game-tying kick. But the field goal try sailed wide and Fork Union had its six-game winning streak snapped.

Garrett Sickles, DE, Red Bank Regional, N.J. (6-4, 240) — Helped Red Bank Regional force five turnovers in a 21-19 win over Neptune. Sickles notched his first career interception and sealed his team’s win with a game-ending sack.

Brendan Mahon, OL, Randolph, N.J. (6-5, 305) — Dominated his Morristown defensive counterparts with more than 10 pancake blocks in Randolph’s 33-6 win.

Curtis Cothran, DE, Council Rock North (6-5, 230) — Led a defense that racked up five sacks and forced a fumble in a 29-0 win over Bensalem.

Andrew Nelson, OL, Hershey (6-5, 265) — Helped keep Hershey’s quarterbacks upright to throw for 104 yards and paved the way for its running backs to hammer out 129 rushing yards in a balanced 34-14 win over Mechanicsburg.

Jordan Smith, DB, H.D. Woodson HS, Washington (5-11, 180) — Helped keep the Spingarn offense out of the end zone during a 50-0 romp. H.D. Woodson has won three games in a row after starting its season 0-4.

Kasey Gaines, DB, Grayson, Ga. (5-11, 160) — Was a part of a defense that forced four early turnovers in a 62-0 thumping of Berkmar. Gaines and the rest of Grayson’s starters got to rest for much of the second half.

Tanner Hartman, OL, Liberty Christian, Va. (6-4, 255) — Helped set up two touchdown runs and two more touchdown passes in pass protection in Liberty Christian’s win over Fork Union.
