Penn State football recruits update

Each week the CDT will report how the recruits who have given Penn State an oral commitment performed during their games the previous weekend. This information will be gathered from newspaper accounts of those games, or from the player’s high school.

Christian Hackenberg (QB, 6-4, 210)

Helped lead Fork Union Military Academy (Va.) to a come-from-behind, 32-14 victory over Collegiate. Down by two scores at halftime, the Blue Devils used two Hackenberg touchdown passes to overtake Collegiate and get FUMA its seventh win of the season. Hackenberg finished the game 11 for 16 with 159 yards, two scores and an interception.

Garrett Sickles (DE, 6-4, 240)

Contributed to Red Bank Regional (N.J.)'s defensive struggle with Matawan Regional. Sickles and the rest of the Red Bank defense held Matawan's offense in check for much of the night but ultimately fell 14-7. Sickles blocked a field goal and recovered a fumble to help keep the game close.

Brendan Mahon (OL, 6-5, 305)

Helped in pass-protection on Randolph (N.J.)'s first play from scrimmage against Roxbury as the Rams scored their lone touchdown of the night on a 65-yard pass play. Randolph would ultimately fall, 13-7 as Roxbury controlled the line of scrimmage for much of the night.

Curtis Cothran (DE, 6-5, 230)

Had trouble along with the rest of the Council Rock North defensive line putting pressure on Pennsbury's offense which racked up 414 yards against the Indians in Council Rock North's 35-20 loss. Cothran was held without a sack.

Andrew Nelson (OL, 6-5, 265)

Helped out on a tackle in Hershey's 49-14 loss to Susquehanna Township. The Hershey offensive line wasn't that effective against a fierce Susquehanna Township defense, paving the way for just 58 rushing yards on 28 tries.

Neiko Robinson (S, 5-11, 170)

Made impacts on both sides of the ball in Northview (Fla.)'s 42-0 romp over Freeport. In addition to helping keep Freeport out of the end zone, Robinson caught touchdown passes of 25, 11 and 15 yards to pace Northview's win.

Jordan Smith (DB, 5-11, 180)

Helped H.D. Woodson (DC) to its fourth-straight win by keeping McKinley Tech's offense out of the end zone for the majority of the night. Smith's individual statistics were not reported.

Kasey Gaines (DB, 5-11, 160)

Held another offense scoreless along with his Grayson (Ga.) High defensive teammates in a 41-0 mauling of South Gwinnett. Gaines' individual statistics were not reported but the Grayson defense is riding a 24-quarter streak in which they've held opponents to zero points while scoring 155.

Tanner Hartman (DE, 6-4, 255)

Came into Liberty Christian (Va.)'s 55-12 pounding of Hargrave Military Academy with 10 tackles and a sack. His stats were not reported following Liberty Christian's win.
