Penn State has added a familiar name to its 2013 football recruiting class.
Thomas Johnson (Md.) High School running back Richy Anderson committed to the Nittany Lions on Sunday night. Anderson is the son of former Penn State and NFL running back Richie Anderson.
The younger Anderson had initially committed to Maryland. He joins Liberty Christian Academy (Va.) offensive lineman Tanner Hartman as the second player to leave Maryland’s recruiting class and commit to Penn State.
A three-star recruit according to Rivals.com, the 5-foot-11, 180-pound Anderson produced more than 1,500 total yards of total offense last season. He was one of more than 100 high school prospects who attended Saturday night’s game against Ohio State.

Anderson hails from Frederick, Md., the same city that produced current Penn State running Zach Zwinak. Anderson’s father lettered at Penn State from 1991-92 before embarking on a 12-year NFL career with the New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys.
