Penn State football: Lions go through display of strength, conditioning drills

The Penn State football team held an open practice early Friday morning to provide a look at the Nittany Lions’ offseason conditioning and weight-training program.

Before dawn and in freezing temperatures, the players started the session on their outdoor practice field beside the Lasch building on campus.

A quick warm-up led right into the strength and conditioning exercises. The drills included running, jumping, rolling, pushing weighted sleds and flipping truck tries.

With little rest and under the watch of strength coach Craig Fitzgerald, the team worked at high intensity.

After a quick break, the players headed into the Lasch weight room for lifting.

Penn State’s annual Blue White Game spring scrimmage will be held April 20 at Beaver Stadium.

The Nittany Lions will open the 2013 season on Aug. 31 vs. Syracuse at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
