The final season to feature an eight-game Big Ten slate will be the first time the Penn State football team opens conference play at home since 2009. The 2015 conference schedule, which was announced on Monday, also will feature two games in NFL stadiums.
The Nittany Lions will play a game at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore against Maryland on Oct. 24, 2015, in addition to traveling to Lincoln Financial Field to meet Temple to open the season Sept. 5.
The Big Ten will move to a nine-game conference schedule starting in 2016. As for 2015, it will mark the second year that Penn State plays in the Big Ten East division alongside new Big Ten foes Rutgers and Maryland.
Following the season opener against the Owls, Penn State will host Buffalo at Beaver Stadium on Sept. 12.
Big Ten East home games against Rutgers (Sept. 19) and Indiana (Oct. 10) will follow. The game against the Scarlet Knights, which opens the conference season for the entire Big Ten, will mark Rutgers’ first visit to Beaver Stadium since 1994.
Penn State will then hit the road for tilts at Ohio State (Oct. 17) before heading to Baltimore to take on the Terrapins (Oct. 24).
In a cross-divisional game, Penn State will welcome Illinois to Beaver Stadium on Oct. 31, then head to Evanston, Ill. to play Northwestern on Nov. 7.
Divisional play resumes with games against Michigan at Beaver Stadium and against Michigan State at Spartan Stadium on Nov. 21 and 28, respectively.
Penn State still has two nonconference games to schedule for 2015.
