Penn State football: Carson, Urschel on watch lists

Penn State football players garnered more preseason accolades on Monday.

Seniors Glenn Carson and John Urschel were both named to watch lists for two prestigious college football awards.

Carson, the Nittany Lions’ most esperienced linebacker, was named to the Butkus Award watch list. Presented to the nation’s top linebacker, the Butkus Award was won by former Nittany Lions Paul Posluszny in 2005 and LaVar Arrington in 1999.

Urschel, who was named to the Outland Trophy watch list last week, is also in the running for the Rotary Lombardi Award. While the Outland Trophy is awarded to the country’s top interior lineman, the Rotary Lombardi Award is given to down linemen and defenders who line up within five yards of the football.
