EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. Fans attending the Penn State-Syracuse football season opener at MetLife Stadium are advised that the National Football League’s policy limiting the size and type of bags permitted in the stadium will be in effect.

The Aug. 31 game between the Nittany Lions and Orange will kick off at 3:30 p.m.

Penn State, Michigan and Michigan State are among the Big Ten institutions that limit the size of bags at home athletic events. Penn State implemented the policy last spring, starting at the Blue-White Game, and limits the size of bags to no larger than 4 inches by 6 inches by 1 inch at all home athletic events this year. One clear one-gallon plastic bag per person will be permitted at all Penn State home athletic events and all items are subject to inspection.

The football home opener is at noon Sept. 7 against Eastern Michigan.

Student tickets for the Syracuse game are $25 and go on sale Monday at 7 a.m. at Gate B of the Bryce Jordan Center. Each student will be permitted to purchase two tickets at $25 per ticket and must present a valid Penn State ID Card to secure the tickets. All sales are cash only.

In May, the NFL Committee on Stadium Security unanimously recommended the implementation of the measures.

MetLife Stadium is strongly encouraging fans to not bring any type of bags to the Aug. 31 game, but has outlined what is permissible. Fans will be able to carry the following style and size bag, package, or container at stadium plaza areas, stadium gates, or when approaching queue lines of fans awaiting entry into the stadium:

Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12x6x12; One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar); Small clutch bags (wristlet), approximately the size of a hand (4.5x6.5), with or without a handle or strap, may be carried into the stadium along with one of the clear bag options.

Prohibited items at MetLife Stadium include, but are not limited to: purses larger than a clutch bag, coolers, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, cinch bags, luggage of any kind, seat cushions, computer bags and camera bags or any bag larger than the permissible size.
