Penn State football: O’Brien a finalist for Liberty Mutual coach of the year award

Penn State head football coach Bill O’Brien is a finalist for the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year award for the second straight season.

O’Brien oversaw a 7-5 season that was capped by a 31-24 win over a ranked Wisconsin squad in Madison.

In addition, since arriving from New England, where he helped lead the Patriots to a Super Bowl berth in his final season there, O’Brien has helped oversee the development of multiple first-team All-Big Ten honorees.

Defensive tackle DaQuan Jones, wide receiver Allen Robinson and guard John Urschel were all selected to the first team this season.

Robinson won the Richter-Howard Receiver of the year Award for the second time and Christian Hackenberg was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year for his play at the quarterback spot.
