Penn State’s Donovan Smith has earned a spot on the watch list for the Outland Trophy, announced Thursday for the latest Penn State football player in the running for one of college football’s top individual awards.
The junior left tackle is among 64 student-athletes on the list for the honor, given to the nation’s top interior lineman.
Penn State defensive tackle Mike Reid won the Outland Trophy in 1969 and All-America defensive tackle Devon Still was the most recent Nittany Lion finalist, in 2011.
Smith started 11 games last year and has 20 career starts over the past two seasons, the team’s third-highest total.
