Penn State football: Ficken earns another Big Ten honor

Sam Ficken has been Penn State’s most reliable scoring threat over the Nittany Lions’ four-game losing streak.

In that span, Ficken has racked up 30 points — including 13 of Penn State’s 19 in a loss to Maryland on Saturday for which he was named the Big Ten’s Special Teams Player of the Week the conference announced Monday.

It is the second time Ficken has been honored with the award this season and the fourth time he’s won it in his career. Ficken, who hit field goals of 48, 47, 46 and 25 yards against Maryland, also was selected as one of three Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Stars of the Week for the second time this season.

Ficken leads Penn State in scoring with 68 points on 17 of 19 field goals.
