Penn State’s Sam Ficken and Donovan Smith announced Tuesday on Twitter that they have accepted invitations to the NFL Combine.
“Blessed to say I have accepted an invitation to the NFL Combine!” Ficken tweeted. “Thanks to so many that have helped me get to this point!”
The NFL Combine will be Feb. 17-23 in Indianapolis.
Ficken connected on 24 of 29 field goals in his senior season for the Nittany Lions, including a 45-yard field goal to send the Pinstripe Bowl to overtime and the game-winning extra point in a 31-30 win over Boston College at Yankee Stadium. Ficken also hit the game-winning 36-yard field goal in Penn State’s 26-24 win over Central Florida in the season opener.
He set the single-season program record for field goals and earned second-team All-Big Ten honors in 2014.
Four of Ficken’s five missed field goals were blocked this season. Ficken made 54 of 75 field goals in his career. His career-long was from 54 yards against Kent State in 2013.
Smith started 31 games at left tackle the last three seasons. Smith, a redshirt junior, decided to forgo his final year of eligibility and received a degree in criminology.
“Blessings keep raining down on me,” Smith tweeted. “Excited to say I just got invited to 2015 NFL Combine.”
