Penn State football: James, Smith, Ficken show off skills in NFL Combine

Former Penn State tight end Jesse James and offensive tackle Donovan Smith, who both declared early for the draft, participated in the NFL Combine on Friday.

James, a 6-foot-7, 261-pounder, had times of 4.83 seconds in the 40-yard dash, 4.50 in the 20-yard shuttle and 12.15 in the 60-yard shuttle. He bench pressed 225 pounds 26 times and leaps of 37.5 inches in the vertical jump and 121 inches in the standing broad jump.

Smith, a 6-foot-6, 338-pounder, ran 5.27 in the 40, 7.95 in the three-cone drill and 4.79 in the 20-yard shuttle. Smith also had 26 repetitions in the bench press and made leaps of 32 inches in the vertical jump and 109 inches in the broad jump.

Nittany Lion placekicker Sam Ficken also was at the Combine on Friday, but his results were not available online.

Penn State linebacker Mike Hull and defensive end Deion Barnes will work out on Sunday.
