Penn State’s Vonn Walker has earned a scholarship with the Nittany Lion football team.
The program announced the Central Mountain product’s official status change Tuesday, working his way up from a “run-on” to a key member of the defense.
“Von Walker is the example of everything that represents Penn State football,” coach James Franklin said. “He is blue collar, hard-nosed, works his butt off day in and day out and always has positive energy at practice. He has improved as much as anybody on our team since we arrived. Make no mistake about it, I am not giving Von a scholarship, he has earned this full scholarship.”
Walker has made a number of contributions on special teams, started his career at running back and moved to linebacker last spring. He appeared in a dozen games last season, starting against Northwestern. He finished the season with 12 tackles, five solo and one tackle for loss.
