Penn State teammates Carl Nassib and Austin Johnson are among the latest additions to the watch list for the Bednarik Award, given to college football’s Defensive Player of the Year, according to a press release Thursday.
Nassib, a defensive end, leads the nation with 10 sacks and five forced fumbles and is third with 12 tackles for loss. He has a sack in every game this season.
Johnson, a defensive tackle, is second on the team with 36 tackles. He also has 3 1/2 sacks and 7 1/2 tackles for a loss to go with his 71-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the Nittany Lions’ win over San Diego State.
Nassib and Johnson join Penn State defensive tackle Anthony Zettel on the list.
The award semifinalists will be announced Nov. 2, and finalists will be announced Nov. 24.
Penn State takes on No. 1 Ohio State at 8 p.m. Saturday.
