According to FOX Sports college football reporter Bruce Feldman and the University of Tennessee’s Rivals.com site, Penn State defensive coordinator Bob Shoop is at Tennessee interviewing for a job opening in the same role.
The Vols would reportedly have to step up the salary for the position, as according to The Tennessean, former defensive coordinator John Jancek earned just over $500,000 per year while Shoop is earning close to $1 million per year according to FOX Sports.
Shoop had been courted last year by other SEC schools, including LSU, but turned them down and got his contract with Penn State extended.
He was asked whether he planned to interview or had interviewed anywhere during last week’s bowl activities in Jacksonville, Fla., and told reporters, “No is the answer to that question. That's the simple answer to that question and today is really about our team and looking forward to going out there on Saturday.
“I hope that Penn State will have me forever and ever and ever. I love being part of (head coach James) Franklin’s program, I love what we're building here and, I’ve said this millions of times, I think we're a ‘30 For 30’ story ready to rock and roll. It's just a matter of time before we get this thing rolling. We're playing in the best division in the best conference in college football and that's really exciting to me.”
