Penn State ice hockey: Nittany Lions to get plenty of TV exposure this season

Beginning with the first ever game at its newest home, the Penn State men’s ice hockey team has 11 planned appearances on television, according to a schedule released by the Big Ten on Monday.

The Nittany Lions will be shown on the Big Ten Network six times during the coming season, starting with the puck dropping for the first time Oct. 11 at Pegula Ice Arena, Penn State’s new $90 million facility. The Nittany Lions begin their season that night against Army at 8 p.m.

Two other home games also are slated for BTN, with Minnesota on Jan. 13 and Michigan on Feb. 8. The contest against the Gophers will be part of the first weekend of Big Ten home competition for Penn State. The conference is the home for hockey for the first time this fall after programs previously played in other conferences.

Road contests on the BTN schedule include Michigan State on Jan. 17, Michigan on Feb. 21 and Minnesota on Feb. 28.

Also, the Nittany Lions’ home game with the Wolverines on Feb. 8 will be shown on ESPNU, while a visit from the Spartans on Feb. 15 and a trip to Ohio State on Feb. 1 will be on ESPNews.

The entire Big Ten Tournament, set for the XCel Center in St. Paul, Minn., from March 20-22, also will be shown on BTN, guaranteeing the Nittany Lions at least one more appearance. In all, 27 games involving Big Ten teams, including the conference tournament, will be shown on BTN in the coming season.

At least one Nittany Lion game is scheduled for regional television as well, with Fox Sports Detroit Plus planning to show Penn State’s visit to Michigan on Feb. 22.
