Penn State women’s hockey: No. 1 Minnesota thumps Nittany Lions in season opener

Defending national champion Minnesota scored multiple goals in each period as the Golden Gophers buried Penn State 8-0 in the season opener for both teams on Friday.

Milica McMillen scored on a pair of power play goals and Dani Cameranesi also scored twice as Minnesota outshot Penn State 48-15.

Penn State goalie Celine Whittinger stopped 40 shots. Sidney Peters had 15 saves for the Gophers.

The Nittany Lions play St. Cloud State at 4 p.m., Saturday.
