Penn State women’s hockey: Ohio State cools off Nittany Lions

The Penn State women’s ice hockey team opened the new year with a 3-1 loss to Ohio State on Saturday night at Pegula Ice Arena.

Hannah Bramm accounted for the lone goal for the Nittany Lions (10-8-3) with 7:50 left in the game as the Buckeyes (11-8-2) dominated with a 35-9 advantage in shots on goal.

Caitlin Reilly and Hannah Hoenshell picked up assists on the score for Penn State, which entered the game winning seven of its last 10.

Nittany Lion goalie Celine Whitlinger was busy in the net, making 32 saves in the loss. She kept Penn State in the game all night, with the contest scoress linto the third period.

Haley Studler finally broke through 3:24 into the third, then scored again 3:41 later, and Claudia Kepler added an empty-net tally in the final minute as the Nittany Lions chased a tying goal.

Buckeyes goalie Stacy Danczak made eight saves in the win.

The teams will meet again at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pegula Ice Arena.
