Penn State women’s hockey: Nittany Lions ice RIT

Bella Sutton had a goal and an assist Saturday afternoon as Penn State rallied past Rochester Institute of Technology 2-1 at Pegula Ice Arena.

The Nittany Lions (11-9-3, 6-4-1 College Hockey America) halted a two-game losing skid with Sutton and Kelly Seward setting up Shannon Yoxheimer’s ninth goal of the season on a power play. Just over two minutes later, Sutton netted the game-winner.

“My teammates did a good job of screening and getting me that puck,” Sutton said. “I just threw it on net and hoped for the best.”

Celeste Brown had put the Tigers (8-13-3, 2-7-1) ahead early before the two Lion goals.

Celine Whitlinger made 26 saves for the win, while Ali Binnington, who entered the day leading the nation in save percentage, stopped 25 shots.

The teams battle again at 2 p.m. Sunday.
