Penn State has returned to the U.S. College Hockey Online national rankings, moving up to No. 19 in this week’s poll released Monday.
Riding an eight-game unbeaten streak and fresh off a weekend sweep of Wisconsin, the Nittany Lions (15-7-4, 7-2-1) earned 125 points to return to the rankings. Penn State had been No. 20 in late December and early January before dropping out of the poll.
Michigan is the Big Ten’s only other ranked team at No. 12.
Penn State also is tied for 20th in the USCHO’s PairWise rankings, which serves as a strong indicator for who is in position to make the NCAA’s 16-team tournament field next month.
The Nittany Lions, who boast the nation’s No. 5 scoring offense, and No. 4 goal scorer in Casey Bailey, visit Michigan State (10-12-2, 4-4-2-2) on Friday and Saturday. Penn State is second and the Spartans are fourth in the Big Ten standings.
