Penn State managed just 11 shots in its 2-0 loss to Mercyhurst on Friday.
The Nittany Lions (15-12-4, 9-6-2) remain in second place in College Hockey America, five points behind the Lakers (21-7-3, 12-4-1).
Mercyhurst took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by Jenna Dingeldein. Shelby Bram found the back of the net in the third period for the Lakers, who took 36 shots.
Mercyhurst goalie Julia DiTondo recorded 11 saves for the shutout, while Penn State’s Celine Whitlinger made 34 saves.
The teams play again at 2 p.m. Saturday.
